Structure and Crack Testing Axle Pivots with Eddy Current
Material mix-ups, hardening errors or cracks in axle pivots can compromise safety. Eddy current testing reliably detects critical defects.
The challenge
Axle pivots are exposed to heavy mechanical loads and must meet high material requirements. Material mix-ups, hardening errors or surface cracks can compromise structural integrity and operational safety. Reliable non-destructive testing during production is therefore essential to detect deviations early and ensure consistent quality of heat treatment and surface condition.
The solution
FOERSTER performs automated structure testing using MAGNATEST systems with encircling or through-type coils to detect material mix-ups and verify heat treatment conditions. For surface crack detection, STATOGRAPH is applied with standard and angled probes while the components are rotated. Both systems can be integrated modularly into the production line.
The result
The combined inspection enables 100 percent verification of material properties and reliable detection of surface defects in critical pivot zones. Automatic sorting into OK and NOK parts follows immediately after testing. Integrated documentation and data transfer to higher-level quality systems support continuous monitoring and stable production processes.
