Inspection System for Cylindrical Rods
Combining crack detection, structure testing and gauging in one process is demanding. STATOGRAPH and MAGNATEST enable integrated inline inspection.
The challenge
Cylindrical metal rods such as strut bars or bearing components must be inspected for surface defects while also meeting strict requirements regarding heat treatment, microstructure and dimensional accuracy. Integrating crack detection, magneto-inductive testing and gauging into one stable process is demanding, especially when different diameters and part variants are involved.
The solution
The system combines STATOGRAPH CM/CM+ for surface inspection with MAGNATEST D or TCL for magneto-inductive testing. Automatic probe adjustment compensates for diameter changes via a recipe-based interface. Optional conveyor sections allow dimensional gauging and integrated sorting, creating a compact and cost-efficient alternative to more complex rotary systems.
The result
Surface defects down to approximately 100 µm depth and width can be detected, with typical minimum flaw lengths around 5 mm, depending on material and finish. Parts can be scanned at speeds up to 125 mm/sec. The integrated concept enables efficient multi-parameter inspection within one streamlined production solution.
