Detection of magnetic impurities for quality monitoring of bearings

The challenge
Residual magnetic remanence in bearings can attract metallic particles, leading to abrasion, damage and potential equipment failure. Remanence may originate from magnetizable base materials, manufacturing processes or adhered ferromagnetic impurities. Even low field strengths in the millitesla range can be critical, making reliable in-house magnetic inspection essential.
The solution
Magnetic remanence testing is carried out using the MAGNETOSCOP with temperature-compensated Hall probes. The system covers a measuring range from 1 µT to 50 mT and enables detection of localized magnetic hotspots on bearing surfaces. Transversal or axial probes are selected depending on component geometry and inspection requirements.
The result
The solution enables precise identification of residual magnetic fields before and after demagnetization. Early detection of magnetic anomalies reduces the risk of particle adhesion, wear and premature failure. Reliable remanence monitoring supports compliance with industry limits such as 0.25 mT and ensures stable bearing performance in demanding applications.
