HRO Hand Rotating Unit

High-resolution borehole inspection with rotating eddy current probes

Reliable detection of cracks and defects in boreholes. The FOERSTER HRO Hand Rotating Unit is a compact inspection tool for manual non-destructive testing of boreholes using rotating eddy current probes. It mechanically drives the probe while simultaneously transmitting sensor signals reliably to the connected testing instrument.

By rotating the probe inside the borehole, the surface is scanned uniformly over the entire circumference. This enables reliable detection of even very small cracks and material discontinuities in safety-critical components.

The HRO enables fast, high-resolution high-speed eddy current inspection and is particularly suitable for maintenance and component inspection applications in aerospace, power generation and automotive industries.

Precise and reproducible inspection results
The drive unit guides the attached rotating probe at a constant rotational speed around the circumference of the borehole. This ensures high inspection sensitivity and reproducible signal quality.

Using standard probe elements, flaws as small as 0.1 mm in depth can be reliably detected. Flaws with an extension of ≥ 1 mm cannot be overlooked when the instrument is properly calibrated and operated by trained personnel.

Adjustable rotation speeds from 630 to 3000 rpm allow optimal adaptation of the inspection process to different probe types, bore diameters and inspection requirements.

Flexible integration into inspection systems
The HRO probe system is based on FOERSTER’s decades of experience in non-destructive testing of boreholes using eddy current technology. Its modular system concept enables flexible adaptation to a wide range of inspection tasks.

In addition to FOERSTER rotating probes, rotating probes from other manufacturers can also be adapted.

When used together with the TCM DEFECTOSCOP app, inspection data can be visualized in multiple formats: C-scan view, T-diagram, impedance plane display.

Designed for mobile industrial inspection environments
The HRO is specifically designed for flexible use in demanding industrial inspection environments. Its compact dimensions, low weight and robust construction ensure comfortable handling even during extended inspection operations.

A broad selection of compatible probes and system components allows optimal configuration for different bore geometries and inspection requirements.

In combination with the TCM platform, the HRO forms a powerful solution for manual borehole inspection workflows.
