The challenge

The hardness of bearings directly determines load capacity, wear resistance and service life. Even small deviations can lead to premature failure and costly damage in automotive or industrial applications. Conventional hardness testing methods are often destructive, time-consuming and operator-dependent. In high-volume production, testing every single bearing is rarely feasible, creating potential quality gaps.

The solution

SONODUR 3 uses ultrasonic contact impedance (UCI) technology to measure hardness quickly and non-destructively. Maximum and minimum hardness limits can be defined according to specification, enabling precise part sorting. The device provides instant numerical results and color-coded OK/NOK feedback, allowing efficient decision-making directly in production or incoming inspection.

The result

Bearings are sorted reliably without damaging the component. Testing is fast, repeatable and largely independent of operator influence.
