Non Destructive Testing Equipment For Semi-Finished Products (Division TS)

The TS Division is engaged in development, production and marketing of equipment and systems for automated, nondestructive testing incorporating electromagnetic methods on metallic semi-finished products.

Our customers are the metal-producing and metalworking industries. Typical applications include eddy-current testing of:

  • Rolled wire, directly on the rolling mill;
  • Longitudinally seam- welded tubes, directly in the welding machine;
  • Drawn wires, directly on the drawing line;
  • Steel in the finishing section;

Leakage-flux testing of:

  • Hot-rolled tubes in modern multi-test blocks;
  • Hot-rolled or peeled bar steel in separate test systems.

Modern test systems allow uncompromising integration in the production process, including all-in documentation. Various versions of so-called testing sections which guarantee optimum transport of the test material through the sensor system are available for setting up separate testing lines. The so-called multi-test blocks are the ideal solution, in particular when combining various FOERSTER test instruments on a testing line but also when integrating test instruments of other manufacturers. Our aim is to work together with our customers on a partnership basis by intelligent series products and individual system solutions.

Foerster NDT Testing Instruments Product Line

DEFECTOMAT

The DEFECTOMAT family offers the right instrument for any application, ranging from the simple module with simple yes/no results through to the multi-channel system with statistical evaluation programs.

Encircling or segmented through-type coils allowing maximum testing speed, e.g. 120 m/s on hot-rolling mills, are used. Typical applications relate to tube welding lines and drawing machines, but the DEFECTOMAT is also used to test thin lamp wires with a diameter of a few micrometers and heat exchanger tubes. International and national product standards, such ISO, EN, DIN, AF, BS, ASTM and JIS etc. refer to this method of eddy-current testing.

CIRCOGRAPH

Eddy-current testing with rotating sensors, guaranteeing maximum detection sensitivity for surface exposed, lengthwise flaws on bright material. FOERSTER offers various configuration levels, ranging from the single-channel, low-cost compact instrument through to the multi-channel system which may also integrate a DEFECTOMAT channel.

Rotating heads for use on round stock cover the diameter range from 2 to 130 mm. Typical fields of application include wire drawing machines, copper tube winders or finishing sections.

Individual arrays with rotating disks scan flat and profile material, e.g. when testing rails and shotblasted rectangular billets.

Circoflux DS
LEAKAGE-FLUX INSTRUMENTS

The leakage-flux probe method is used on ferrous, hot-rolled surfaces with round cross-sections. On the CIRCOFLUX, the AC field method is used for highly sensitive detection of longitudinal surface flaws, predominantly on hot-rolled bar stock. On the ROTOMAT/TRANSOMAT, the DC field method is used for detection of external and internal flaws on hot-rolled tubes. Longitudinal flaws or transverse flaws are detected, depending on the magnetization direction. API and ISO Standards describe the method.
