DEFECTOMAT : Eddy Current Testing Equipment (Division TS)
The DEFECTOMAT family offers the right instrument for any application, ranging from the simple module with simple yes/no results through to the multi-channel system with statistical evaluation programs.
Encircling or segmented through-type coils allowing maximum testing speed, e.g. 120 m/s on hot-rolling mills, are used. Typical applications relate to tube welding lines and drawing machines, but the DEFECTOMAT is also used to test thin lamp wires with a diameter of a few micrometers and heat exchanger tubes. International and national product standards, such ISO, EN, DIN, AF, BS, ASTM and JIS etc. refer to this method of eddy-current testing.

DEFECTOMAT CP 2.842
The compact instrument for eddy-current testing with through-type coils for (virtually all) applications.
As the successor instrument to the legendary DEFECTOMAT C, over 2,000 of which have been sold worldwide, it continues the instrument's triumphant advance. Over 500 DEFECTOMAT CP instruments are currently in use. This single-channel test instrument incorporates all the features required for automatic testing, e.g. interfaces for the line-related sensors and actuators for speed, flaw marking, sorting and saw control. Printer and computer interface allow documentation in the form of a hardcopy report or export of test results and setting data to other computer systems.
For use on tube welding lines, an absolute channel is available as an option. Optionally, a corresponding evaluation module is available for testing copper tubes in accordance with EN 1971.
Today's second generation of the DEFECTOMAT CP has a modern TFT color display which presents the concurrent test result, the test evaluation and the essential setting parameters at a glance even more impressively than on the monochrome predecessor model.

DEFECTOMAT EP 2.849
The compact instrument for eddy-current testing with through-type coils as an Economy Model.
It is only slightly less fully featured than the DEFECTOMAT CP. It is also fully suitable for line integration.
It features a high-resolution, gray-scale monitor.
A printer interface is provided for documentation but no computer interface is provided.
An absolute channel can be added as an option for use on tube welding lines. The DEFECTOMAT EP is the typical, autarkic, stand-alone test instrument.

DEFECTOMAT EZ 2.828
The Defectomat EZ is an innovative addition to Foerster's industry-leading family of eddy current testing instrumentation.
Typical in-line testing applications include drawing and rolling mills, welded tube lines, hotwire and rod mills, finishing lines, grinding lines and component manufacturing operations. Use of the Defectomat EZ will provide improved quality through 100% continuous automatic inspection and by eliminating the subjectivity of visual inspection techniques. When used early in the production process, the Defectomat EZ can reduce scrap, eliminate further processing of defective material and improve productivity. This allows you to improve quality, increase profitability and ensure customer satisfaction.

FERROMAT EZ
The Foerster Ferromat EZ detects ferrous particle inclusion in all nonferrous metals. When installed directly in rolling or drawings lines with continuous throughput, it will provide critical information on the rolling/drawing process and on product quality.
The Ferromat EZ is used extensively in the copper industry to predict drawability and to improve process productivity. The Ferromat EZ module was designed for independent operation, or for integration with a Defectomat EZ, MicroDAM and computer for test data acquisition, product quality assessment and manufacturing process control.

DEFECTOMAT ECM 2.841
The module for eddy-current testing with through-type coils, reduced to the essentials.
Extremely easy-to-use operating controls, unidimensional signal display in the form of LED bar graph, Yes/No sorting.
Enhanced operating convenience and result display by PC connection in conjunction with the eddyWin software package. Easy integration in existing control cabinets.
The production/testing line control also performs the task of control and result forwarding for the EC module.

So-called through-type coils are used for eddy-current testing with the DEFECTOMAT. These through-type coils may take the form of encircling or segmented coils. Thus, either the entire circumference of the semi-finished products or only a segment or also only a narrow track, e.g. only the weld seam, is tested as the test piece passes through.
All these coils are transformational coils with single or multiple differential windings. Each coil is also supplemented with an absolute winding which is generally evaluated only when testing longitudinal seam-welded tubes for detection of unwelded tubes. Through-type coils must be adapted to the geometry of the test material. The distance of these coils from the material surface should be only a few millimeters. Thus, besides the wide variety of round coils in the
diameter range 0.2 to 170 mm and segment coils for diameters of approx. 10 to 180 mm, there are also oval and rectangular coils, in addition to flat coils covering tracks of various widths. Probes with a track width of only a few millimeters are also used.
If ferromagnetic material is to be tested with the DEFECTOMAT, additional DC field magnetization is generally needed to suppress noise signals resulting from permeability variations. This magnetization facility may take the form of a permanent magnet or an electromagnetic yoke, depending on the required intensity. If testing is to be performed only partially with segment coils, magnetization must also be built up partially as well. This results in various sensor systems (extended coil holders) for the various applications.

Transmitter system M:
M 40,
M 90,
M 170
If magnetization is performed
during eddy-current testing, it
will generally be necessary to demagnetize again after the test. Demagnetizers which are
integrated directly in the testing
line are available for this
purpose.
|
Sensor System M
Magnetizing yokes (M 40, M 90 M140 and M170) are available for testing ferromagnetic materials. Encircling coils are generally used. Size-adapted steel nozzles are required for magnetization, and these also provide a certain degree of protection for the coil since they have a somewhat smaller diameter. Segment coils may also be used in these yokes if only partial testing is required.
Solid stock can be magnetized only up to moderate cross-sections (diameter approx. 60 mm). On the one hand, the yoke field strengths do not suffice for homogeneous magnetization through to the core. On the other hand, the magnetized bars can no longer be demagnetized feasibly. Thirdly, magnetized, large cross-sections can no longer be transported through the yokes with the conventional conveying equipment since this would require excessive extraction forces.
A special-purpose yoke M 22 is available for cramped conditions for small dimensions up to 22 mm.
The power supply for these electromagnetic yokes takes the form of the so-called yoke current box
(6-stage).

Sensor System P
Under certain circumstances, permanent magnetization may suffice for small cross-sections or for austenitic materials. Two versions are available for this purpose for material up to 12 mm and material up to 40 mm diameter, P 12 and P 40.

Special versions are available for dimensions > 180 mm.
Coil holders SH 180 are available for testing non-ferromagnetic materials.
A stand ensures that all coil holders are height-adjustable.

Transmitter System H:
H 40,
H 90
|
Sensor System H
Coil holders H 40 and H 90 are available for encircling testing of non-ferrous metals in the diameter range 0.2 to 90 mm.
Diameter-adapted guides made of plastic with a somewhat smaller diameter offer a certain degree of protection for the coil.

Sensor System FD
A special fine-wire sensor system which accommodates the special, small coils which also contain a differential and absolute winding has been developed for testing tungsten and molybdenum wire for the lamp industry in the diameter range 0.1 to 2 mm. Special guides and additional guide elements are adapted to this specific application.

|
Transmitter System T:
T 60
|
Sensor System T
A rugged sensor system, adapted to the rough conditions and including guide elements, has been developed for use on hot-rolling mills (at temperatures up to +1,200 °C and rolling speeds up to 150 m/s). Water-cooled coils and guides for materials with diameters ranging from 5 to 60 mm are available. Special guide elements steady the wire and ensure that it is guided as centrally as possible.
